A wood-framed 2 1/2 story building originally built as a warehouse in the early 1900’s is proposed to be converted from its existing all-commercial uses in downtown Keyport to  Mixed Use, with commercial-use remaining on the first floor and residential units on the 2nd floor and loft.   Existing development regulations in a Commercial Zone do not allow residential use.   However,  the Borough’s 2001 Master Plan recognized the need to examine the possibility of introducing residential uses on the second floors of commercial buildings, and the Town’s 2012 report reexamining the issue recommended an amendment to the development regulations to allow mixed use buildings.  However, there have been no changes to the development plan; therefore Use and Bulk Variances are required and currently being applied for.
